Description
Week 5 marks the midpoint of our series, and we’re celebrating by working with specialty materials! This project is all about functionality and sustainability, teaching students how to make items that replace single-use plastics.
What we will cover in this session:
-
Technical Fabrics: Introduction to PUL (Polyurethane Laminate). Learn why we don’t iron the shiny side and why we never use pins on waterproof fabric.
-
Wonder Clips: Mastering the use of clips instead of pins to keep our liners leak-proof.
-
Closures: Learning to sew hook-and-loop (Velcro) tape without “gumming up” the needle.
-
The “No-Leak” Fold: A construction technique that ensures the lining stays secure and easy to clean.
The Project: Each student will complete a Reusable Snack Bag. These bags are food-safe, machine-washable, and a great way for 7th and 8th graders to see the practical, eco-friendly impact of their new skills.
Note: This is Week 5 of our 10-week series. Purchase this individual session, or save by enrolling in the full course!
