Description

In Week 4, we focus on the details. When a project is only three inches wide, every stitch counts! This session is designed to slow down the pace and focus on total machine control—a key part of our “Steady” 2026 theme.

What we will cover in this session:

  • Heavy-Duty Fabrics: Introduction to Denim and Canvas. Learn how thick layers require longer stitches and stronger needles.

  • Precision Control: Hand-cranking the machine wheel for tight corners and tiny seams.

  • Pin vs. Weight: Discovering when to use weights to protect delicate fabrics from pinholes.

  • Magnetic Safety: Best practices for using magnets around computerized sewing machines.

The Project: Students will construct a set of Magnetic Pattern Weights. These are essential tools for any growing sewing kit, helping to hold patterns in place without damaging the fabric.
