Description
April is for Practicality and Personal Style.
This 4-week intensive is designed for 7th and 8th-grade makers who are ready to see what a sewing machine can really do. We transition from “soft” sewing to “technical” construction, introducing students to the specialized tools and fabrics used in the professional handmade industry.
April Curriculum Highlights:
-
Week 4: Precision & Heavy-Duty Fabrics Learn to handle denim and canvas while creating Magnetic Pattern Weights. We focus on small-scale precision and total machine control.
-
Week 5: Specialty Fabrics & Sustainability An introduction to PUL (waterproof lining) and “No-Pin” sewing. Students will create Reusable Snack Bags using eco-friendly materials.
-
Week 6: The Secret of Interfacing Learn how to give fabric “bones” using heat-activated stabilizers. We’ll master professional topstitching while making Stiffened Fabric Bookmarks.
-
Week 7: The Tube Method & Elastic A student favorite! We master the “Tube” construction method and elastic safety to create the Classic Fabric Scrunchie.
What’s Included in the April Bundle:
-
8 hours of in-person instruction (4 sessions).
-
Specialty materials (Magnets, PUL lining, Interfacing, and Elastic).
